Celia on the Run is a well-written novel by author Sarah Mandell. The story takes you on a whirlwind adventure. Each chapter keeps you wanting more. I found myself desperately wanting to know what was going to happen next. The suspense was killing me. I literally had to hold myself back from peeking at the end and I'm glad I left the element of surprise. The main character, Nick, truly finds himself. He learned to think on his own and gains the confidence he lacked at the beginning of the novel. Mandell does a great job in making you sympathetic towards Celia. The dialogue was spot on for each character. Everything was described vividly and intricately. I was able to place myself right there with the characters. I hope that Mandell will continue to write more novels.Product details

Celia on the Run is an amazing book to read. I have to say that the cover is so eye catching that when you finally turn the pages to start reading you are so caught in the story that the characters become something more. To me I was hoping that the two main characters would see that everything they do has consequences.
Nick is such a great character. He is as straight laced as they come. Lord the boy does not do any wrong in his life. He does not drink, smoke or give his parents any headaches like most teen boys do. Lord I loved this boy he was so perfect in every way but he had that quiet wild streak and I knew once he had a chance to explore it which is usually in college he was going to become a man and leave his boyish things behind. And boy oh boy was I right. I loved how the author took us on this ride because when Nick started the wild ride he was a little boy but at the end of the trip he became a man and I loved his character even more than ever.
Celia is a hot mess! She is hurt and determined to find her father or so she says. She has a plan but the plan did not include hooking up with Nick but when she does her life changes in ways she never knew was possible. She has lots of secrets and when some of them come out Nick will get to see a side of her that he did not see when he first met her. Through this whole experience Celia will have no choice but to decide right from wrong. She will experience her highs and lows and she will have to chose whether or not to leave the bad behind and start something real and true with Nick.
This story had me on pins and needles because I couldn't figure out whether or not Nick and Celia should be together or they should just move on. Read this story because the ending will surprise you! I know it did for me and I look forward to reading more from Sarah Mandell.

On the eve of his grandmother's funeral. Celia and Nick have crossed paths, she is a runaway traveling across the country to return to her father's house. The book starts off on a very sexual revelation on Nick's part. His grandmother's last words pretty much stating he needs to go get laid, and live life while he's still young. A point is made that his parents have a highly sexual love life after all these years, leading up to Nick watching Celia in the public shower and shortly afterword having her take his virginity. The book literally starts of with a "bang".
Nick is described to be a straight A student, very soft spoken, nice and predictable boy. But when the tornado that is Celia turns up, it's a ride that he doesn't want to end. Stealing the car and abandoning his parents at the motel, he offers to drive Celia across the country and deliver her home.
Celia on the Run is very much a sexual awakening story as it is a coming of age. There are not a lot of actual sex scenes, and they are not graphic. But there is a constant focus on it and several discussions between the two regarding it. Along the way they end up in situations in which they have to get money for food and gas, and lets just say that Celia is in no way ashamed to use her body as a way to persuade people to give her money. Although not all of their situations are specifically geared toward using sex and flirtation for money. They also have to turn to stealing and lying to make their way.
It is very clear that Nick enamored with Celia and her beauty. At first he is taken with the very carefree life that she is living. She's upfront with him, tells him how it is and warns him of what being around her entails =danger. But she's not about to pass up a free ride with a nice and trustworthy boy.
Celia on the Run is heartbreaking, heart-pounding and shocking story. It begins with a bang, and ends with another. Fast paced and action packed, non-stop adventure.
Have just read the very beginning, but I already can tell that I have purchased a winner! Once I get this on my tablet I may find the time to read the whole book.
This was a great read with plenty of suspense and funny moments to keep me interested... And then a great ending that really surprised me and made me reexamine some of the key scenes in the story again in a new light. Definitely a fun read, and I'm looking forward to more from this author.
Celia on the Run is an outstanding coming of age story. It is hard to talk about this book without giving away some of the plot, which would be a crime. I will confine myself to saying I sometimes thought I had the plot figured out and sometimes I was right and sometimes I was very wrong. I will add the following adjectives that apply funny, poignant, shocking, touching, disturbing and heartwarming. It contains fairly graphic sex and is for mature readers.
